FMJ Associates was set up with the aim of providing an unparalleled level of support to businesses who are looking for a professional firm that will provide proactive support in their development rather than simply reactive 'firefighting'.

Warren Fewtrell, our Managing Director, trained with a two partner firm of Chartered Accountants gaining knowledge of the issues facing numerous businesses in the small and medium sized (SME) marketplace. He left to take up senior roles in various companies and over the years developed a frustration at the lack of proactive and commercial professional support available to owners and managers of SMEs. He states "Spending a number of years 'on the other side of the table' gave me a valuable insight into what SMEs are looking for. There was always too much emphasis on historic and often out of date information. As well as someone to do the accounts and tax work, I needed someone qualified, commercial and personable with whom I could develop a relationship and bounce ideas off. Someone who understood what it was like to be in my position and face the challenges I was facing and offer me some options. Basically I wanted someone who was interested in where my business was going as well as telling me where it had been! I believe that managing a business is like driving a car...looking in the rear view mirror can provide some useful information but it shouldn't be your primary focus of attention!!" As a result, After having taken a year out to study for an MBA at Warwick Business School, Warren founded FMJ Associates to service this need and the practice has gone from strength to strength since then.  Whilst initially our focus was on clients in the Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas the practice has expanded considerably and now serves clients in the farthest reaches of London, Kent, Sussex and Surrey.

Contrary to what you may have experienced in the past, we believe that accountants and business advisers are not a commodity...we're not all the same! We help our clients achieve their goals by putting our experience at their disposal. We emphasise service and quality and achieve this through the development of long term relationships. Regular contact generates the opportunity to become familiar with some of the issues you encounter on a day to day basis. We endeavour to remain well connected with high quality businesses in different industries with the result being that, if we can't help you directly, we will invariably be able to refer you to someone who can.

FMJ's client management team is headed up by another of FMJ's directors, Sue Davies ACMA.  Sue, a Chartered Management Accountant with many years' senior level experience within both large and small companies as well as practice, manages the day to day relationships with our clients as well as dealing with all the Practice administration.  Her attention to detail and extensive knowledge of accounting software packages contributes directly to the successful delivery of outstanding service to our clients...something we feel very passionate about here at FMJ!
