Our Services
Bookkeeping & accounting
Many businesses view bookkeeping as a burdensome administrative task, or simply something that needs to be done occasionally in order to complete their VAT returns.
This is certainly not how we see it. Our clients recognise that in order to manage and develop their business they need regular, up to date information to assess not only the success (or otherwise!) of historic management decisions but also to provide the basis for making decisions affecting the future.
Our bookkeeping assignments therefore involve a four stage process:
- Recording
This involves the collation, sorting, coding and recording of all transactions in a period. This is an extremely important area to get right as inexperience at this stage can affect the quality of the output at later stages. At the same time we use our experience to query those transactions that could cause problems later on, for example during an HMRC enquiry.
- Controlling
This is the process of ensuring that what you did in the first stage was right, which is surprisingly often overlooked! On each bookkeeping assignment we examine and prove each of the key accounts in the profit & loss and balance sheet. This enhances the credibility of the information provided in the latter stages.
- Reporting
Each business is different and we work with our clients to help them understand what regular information is required and in what format. It's not necessarily just about giving them an interim P&L & balance sheet as there are various other key performance indicators that could be just as important, for example which of their products or services are most profitable, which customers are not just profitable but the most reliable in terms of payment, is cashflow going to be an issue, etc.
- Interpreting
Even once we've established the appropriate content and format of our clients' regular reporting needs we don't just send them the information but assist them in reviewing the detail in the context of their overall long term strategy. Are the short term objectives of the business still appropriate in the current business environment? Should the business be revising its target markets, product ranges, prices, etc?
As you will no doubt have gathered by now we do not accept assignments where a business is simply looking to outsource what they consider to be an administrative task, however if you are a growing business and feel that our methodology would provide you with the additional support you need then we would be delighted to discuss this with you.
